Teaching Anatomy from classical to modern times

The Scottish Society of the History of Medicine aims to promote, encourage and support the study of the history of medicine, with a particular interest in Scottish Medicine.

It was founded in 1948 and the medical historian Dr Douglas Guthrie was its first President. The Society is registered as a charity in Scotland (SC008621) and is affiliated to the British Society for the History of Medicine.

All members of the Scottish Society automatically become members of the British Society and are able to take part in its activities.

The SSHM is inviting you to a special themed event which will take place alongside the British Society for the History of Medicine, The Worshipful Society of Apothecaries and The Royal Society of Medicine History of Medicine Society.

This prestigious event aims to explore surgical history in relation to understanding and acknowledging the extensive body of knowledge and teaching methods used which has allowed surgery to develop.

Discussions are welcomed from a range of perspectives including historical, social, cultural and modern innovations.

This conference is aimed at medics with an interest in history and historians with an interest in medicine.
